Yes, we have stunning beaches, but have you been to the hinterland? The Gold Coast hinterland is a treasure trove of natural beauty, offering some of the most scenic hiking trails in Queensland.

Whether you're seeking a family-friendly stroll or a challenging climb, these trails promise unforgettable experiences in nature. Here are six of our favourite hikes to explore during your holiday:

Purling Brook Falls Circuit, Springbrook National Park

Distance: 4 km

Duration: 2 hours

Difficulty: Moderate

Purling Brook Falls Circuit in Springbrook National Park is a stunning 4-kilometer loop trail offering breathtaking views of one of Queensland's most iconic waterfalls. This well-maintained track takes you through lush subtropical rainforest, past towering cliffs, and across a suspension bridge at the base of the falls. The highlight of the circuit is the 100-meter cascading waterfall, which is especially spectacular after rain. Suitable for moderate fitness levels, the trail includes steep sections and numerous steps, providing an immersive nature experience and photo-worthy scenery.

Photographers - this one's for you! Natural Bridge Circuit in Springbrook National Park is a magical 1-kilometer loop that showcases one of Queensland's most iconic natural wonders. This easy trail takes you through lush rainforest to a stunning rock arch formed by the erosive power of a cascading waterfall. The highlight is the waterfall plunging through the arch into a cave, which is home to glow worms that light up the space at night! This enchanting walk is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and photographers alike.

O'Reilly's Tree Top Walk, Lamington National Park

Located at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat, the Tree Top Walk is a unique and family-friendly experience in the heart of Lamington National Park. Pages Pinnacle, Advancetown

Pages Pinnacle is a challenging yet rewarding adventure for experienced hikers. This 6-kilometer return trail leads through dense bushland, rocky terrain, and steep inclines, culminating in a narrow ridgeline with breathtaking panoramic views of Advancetown Lake, Hinze Dam, and the surrounding valleys. The final ascent requires some rock scrambling, so make sure you bring your hiking boots! With its rugged beauty and stunning vistas, Pages Pinnacle is perfect for those seeking an outdoor experience off the beaten path.

Pages Pinnacle is recommended for experienced hikers only. Ensure you have the correct equipment such as walking poles, hiking boots and at least 2 litres of water.

Twin Falls Circuit, Springbrook National Park

Distance: 4 km

Twin Falls Circuit is a picturesque 4-kilometer loop trail in Springbrook National Park. Begin the hike at Canyon lookout where you'll find breathtaking views of hinterland from the top of the falls. Follow the trail where you'll pass behind two waterfalls, through rock clefts and among palms and treeferns. The highlight is Twin Falls, where water cascades into a serene pool, offering a perfect spot for photos or a refreshing break. Suitable for most fitness levels, this trail is a must-do for nature lovers seeking a tranquil escape.

Curtis Falls Track, Tamborine National Park

Distance: 1.1 km

Duration: 30 minutes

Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Travel time from Surfers Paradise: 50 minutes

Springbrook isn't the only national park that you should visit! Curtis Falls Track in Tamborine National Park is a short 1.1-kilometer return walk that leads to a stunning waterfall nestled in the rainforest. Perfect for families and casual walkers, this well-maintained path winds through towering eucalyptus trees and offers opportunities to spot wildlife such as colourful birds and water dragons. The trail ends at a viewing platform overlooking the cascading Curtis Falls and its tranquil rock pool below.
