Benny's Inspiring Fundraising Journey

At Tallebudgera Creek Tourist Park, there's one resident who stands out, and it's not just because of his dazzling Christmas lights. Benny Bennett, a long-time resident, has been lighting up the park for years with his incredible fundraising efforts for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Benny's journey began in 2005 after the loss of his daughter to leukaemia. Determined to honour her memory, Benny and his wife, Jillie, started raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Every Christmas, Benny transforms his home into a winter wonderland, complete with twinkling lights and themed decorations. It's a sight to be seen, and the summer guests of the park flock to see it. But Benny's display isn't just about spreading holiday cheer; it's also about raising funds. Guests are encouraged to donate money, however they also drop off their cans, which Benny exchanges for cash to add to his overall donation.

"The first few years we never raised a lot of money, maybe $500 to $600 a year. Then when recycling of bottles and cans came in, a lot of people started saving their cans for me. Since then we have been raising $1000 to $2000 a year."

Benny's festive display drew in more visitors than ever, and he managed to raise an impressive $5000. The Park Management team also made a contribution, making Christmas 2024 Benny's biggest fundraising year yet. It was a bittersweet achievement, as Benny continues his fundraising efforts in memory of both his daughter and his beloved wife, Jillie, who passed away from cancer in 2019.

To celebrate Benny's contribution, a special cheque presentation was held at Tallebudgera Creek Tourist Park. David from the Leukemia Foundation and Councillor Josh Martin were on hand to honour his dedication and hard work.

We are immensely proud of Benny and his commitment to such a worthy cause. We look forward to supporting Benny in his future fundraising endeavours and can't wait to see what he has in store for Christmas 2025!
