New Accessibility Features

New Accessibility Features at Burleigh Beach

The team at Burleigh Beach Tourist Park have successfully won a Queensland Government grant, securing vital funds which have been invested in a new beach wheelchair and additions to the 2 Bedroom Accessible Cabin.

“Our project is to enhance the experience of guests with mobility and/or vison impairment. Our aim is to increase the participation of our guests in all that a holiday at Burleigh Heads has to offer. This aim is in keeping with a broader community goal of promoting Burleigh Heads as an accessible holiday destination” said Scott and Lara Berryman, Contract Managers, Burleigh Beach Tourist Park.

Beach Wheelchair

An all-terrain beach wheelchair is available year-round for guests staying at the park. This will provide guests with mobility impairments direct access to Burleigh Beach from the Park.

Beach matting is also provided by Burleigh Beach Surf Club directly opposite the Park, making it easier for everyone to enjoy full beach access. Beach matting is available 9am to 4pm, Saturdays and Sundays, September to May.

Accessible Cabin

In addition to the wheelchair, the team have made added features to the 2 Bedroom Accessible Cabin. An adjustable bed and Smart TV with voice controls have been installed to improve usability and guest experience.

The cabin also features a ramp leading to the front door. The open plan design enables comfortable wheelchair mobility throughout. The self-contained cabin includes bedding for up to four guests with two double beds. All doorways are accessible by wheelchair, and the bathroom is equipped with conveniently placed grab rails.
